Horace Cornflake is the creation of the Leeds writer and children's book author Ken Ross. Horace the character was created in a Leeds steel foundry in 1976 and began his life keeping a journal about his work colleagues at the foundry. Ross used him as a vehicle for his humour and bizarre drawings. In the early years he actually sold a few pastels that Horace had put together in a few minutes of spare time. As the years went by there began the existence of two separate beings - one was the serious thinking writer and the other the more exuberant comic and artist which is known today as Horace Cornflake. Ken admits to a very idle nature, but through his crazy devotion to his creation he can force himself to work ceaselessly to propel the career of his shadow forever upward.
Horace Cornflake is now an artist and photographer who divides his time painting, shooting pictures, and spending long hours developing his websites. The man that created him returns at bedtime to spend the night dreaming of the next move to make in this living novel.
Horace calls himself The English Individualist because everything he does bears his unique hallmark. Whether it is inventing The Fears - a four-way painting with four hanging attachments, or telling stories in series of paintings, or indeed practising his personal one-line squiggle drawings/paintings, he has got to be different. Horace's nature dictates that he alone creates the rules and he plays them his way. Whether or not you find his style appealing you will agree there is only one Horace Cornflake.
